52nd Post - August Overview
So here are August's posts, hope you enjoy them and find them interesting to watch, listen, eat, read and of course not forgetting about July's hottest beauty products and making sure you embrace this Summer's most elegant look. In the meantime, August has much to offer especially in London, head out this June and take in all the best new events, exhibitions and happenings in the capital.
The laws of physics dictate that what goes up, must come down. Even when it feels as if our feet are a million miles off the ground. But when we’ve hit rock bottom we hope that some way, some how, our fortunes will change. That a great force will reverse the trend. Life is filled with high rollers. Some people choose to bet on themselves. While others are happy to bet on someone else. But luck is a funny thing. It’s easy to accept it when it goes your way, but when it doesn’t…Call it injustice, call it treachery. But remember, the most important rule in gambling is that the house always wins. -- N
Buckingham Palace Summer Opening:
Every summer London’s most famous house opens for tours with an accompanying exhibition. Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms, but only 19 of them, the State Rooms, are open to the public. These are the grand spaces, where the Queen hosts receptions and entertains guests. You won’t bump into any royals – the palace opens for ten weeks only, when the Queen is away – but you will get to wander around the Throne Room and ogle the Ballroom’s glittery chandeliers.
Serpentine Lido:
Early mornings and the winter months are the preserve of the Serpentine Swimming Club, but from May to September there’s a warm welcome for everyone in this section of the Serpentine lake – although the water is not heated. It’s not chlorinated either, a boon for swimmers who prefer to avoid the stuff, as well as to the wildlife (you may find yourself sharing a dip with the local ducks and swans). The gated family area with a (chlorinated) paddling pool, sandpit and swings means parents can relax while their children play. There's a private sunbathing area and sun loungers for hire and a kiosk within the lido grounds makes it possible to order from the popular Lido Café next door.

Visitors in 2018 will see the new Royal Gifts exhibition, an extensive look at the presents the Queen has been given during her 65-year reign. Highlights include a Union Flag worn by Tim Peake during his spacewalk last year, a fossilised dinosaur bone, an honorary Bafta, an enamel TfL roundel for Buckingham Palace, a gold casket from Prince Rainier of Monaco, a sperm whale tooth necklace from Fiji and a silk prayer shawl blessed by the Dalai Lama.
