THIS YEAR'S BEST DRESSES - 2022
This has seen some great style and fashion on the red carpet and here we have the stars that raised the bar for red carpet glamour.... Here we have the best red carpet moments this year...
Dakota Johnson:
For the Vanity Fair Oscars 2022 after party, Dakota Johnson turned to Gucci, turning heads on the red carpet in a dusty pink gown, accented with a long train and sweeping voluminous sleeves, and festooned with delicate feathers, twinkling sequins, and intricate beadwork. The actress stole the show when she showed in her beloved Gucci, wearing a dress that many have been patiently waiting to see make its appearance on a red carpet. Johnson arrived to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a blush pink gown from Alessandro Michele’s Spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection, AKA the Gucci Love Parade, which took over Hollywood Boulevard with a showcase of eye-catching looks inspired by the film industry’s rich history. Many of the dresses from this collection have made it to the red carpet since they debuted in November 2021—with Lady Gaga most notably wearing a purple pleated number to the House of Gucci UK premiere last fall—but it was the dress Johnson wore last night that was clearly bound for the spotlight from the moment it debuted.
Blake Lively: DOUBLE FEATURE
As a co-chair of the highly anticipated 2022 Met Gala, we were fully expecting Blake Lively to smash it in the style stakes – but she has truly exceeded expectations this year, arriving on the red carpet wearing a gown by Atelier Versace. Lively's princess-style dress transformed as she ascended the Met's steps – quite literally. The actress' dress was adorned with a gigantic bow, which assistants stepped in to 'unwrap', transforming the dress from rose gold to aqua blue before the audience's eyes. Indicating the train of her dress, Lively said 'this is the constellation of Grand central station'. Her bodice, meanwhile, was inspired by the Empire State Building while the draping and crown by the Statue of Liberty. Lively went on to explain that the crown has seven tiers just like the Statue has seven rays. Lively's dramatic fashion looks have been a highlight of the Met Gala red carpet over the years, and have just got better and better since she started attending in 2008.
Lori Harvey:
The strapless dress featured a corset-style bodice covered in sparkling adornments and an intricate geometrical design, plus a see-through skirt that trailed behind her as she walked the carpet. The 25-year-old fashion and beauty influencer grounded her look with a pair of soaring silver metallic pumps by Jimmy Choo boasting a hefty platform sole and ankle-strap fastening.
Taylor Swift:
Brie Larson:
Not all superheroes wear capes, but Captain Marvel does, and it’s custom Oscar de la Renta. Brie Larson, who plays the Air Force fight pilot turned Avenger, attended the opening ceremony of the Marvel Avengers Campus in Disneyland Paris over the weekend in an outfit her character, Carol Danvers, would likely be very proud to wear. For the occasion, Larson donned a look from Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2022 show, a pair of navy blue, high-waisted, wide-leg pants, and a gold crop top tank completely covered in sequins. It was the actress’ cape, though, that really brought the ensemble together and made it worthy of one of Earth’s mightiest heroes. Created by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia specifically for Larson, the piece was hand-embroidered with a celestial sequin design, likely referencing Captain Marvel’s cosmic origin story.
Chastain arrived to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles for the second annual occasion, wearing a glamorous Oscar de la Renta gown. Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the Oscar-winning star’s white dress featured a curved bodice, thigh-high slit and flowing cape train. Covering the Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim-designed piece was an intricate print of multicolored flowers — one of the duo’s signatures — including sunflowers, peonies and violets.
