THIS YEAR'S BEST DRESSES - 2022

This has seen some great style and fashion on the red carpet and here we have the stars that raised the bar for red carpet glamour.... Here we have the best red carpet moments this year...

Dakota Johnson:

For the Vanity Fair Oscars 2022 after party, Dakota Johnson turned to Gucci, turning heads on the red carpet in a dusty pink gown, accented with a long train and sweeping voluminous sleeves, and festooned with delicate feathers, twinkling sequins, and intricate beadwork. The actress stole the show when she showed in her beloved Gucci, wearing a dress that many have been patiently waiting to see make its appearance on a red carpet. Johnson arrived to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a blush pink gown from Alessandro Michele’s Spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection, AKA the Gucci Love Parade, which took over Hollywood Boulevard with a showcase of eye-catching looks inspired by the film industry’s rich history. Many of the dresses from this collection have made it to the red carpet since they debuted in November 2021—with Lady Gaga most notably wearing a purple pleated number to the House of Gucci UK premiere last fall—but it was the dress Johnson wore last night that was clearly bound for the spotlight from the moment it debuted.

Blake Lively: DOUBLE FEATURE

As a co-chair of the highly anticipated 2022 Met Gala, we were fully expecting Blake Lively to smash it in the style stakes – but she has truly exceeded expectations this year, arriving on the red carpet wearing a gown by Atelier Versace. Lively's princess-style dress transformed as she ascended the Met's steps – quite literally. The actress' dress was adorned with a gigantic bow, which assistants stepped in to 'unwrap', transforming the dress from rose gold to aqua blue before the audience's eyes. Indicating the train of her dress, Lively said 'this is the constellation of Grand central station'. Her bodice, meanwhile, was inspired by the Empire State Building while the draping and crown by the Statue of Liberty. Lively went on to explain that the crown has seven tiers just like the Statue has seven rays. Lively's dramatic fashion looks have been a highlight of the Met Gala red carpet over the years, and have just got better and better since she started attending in 2008.

I'm just going to say it: Blake Lively's 2022 style is some of her best yet. From her epic crop top look at New York Fashion Week, to that plunging Cadbury purple trouser suit worn on Broadway, Blake is serving lewk after look this year and we're loving every second of it. Overnight, the actor stepped out once more, this time in a truly memorable rainbow Versace dress that is even more amazing than it sounds. While the number wouldn't look out of place at a summery red carpet event, it's just nearing the end of winter in New York now, meaning Blake shrugged a slouchy denim jacket over the top - a move we can totally relate to when you're going for a night out in the colder months. Blake then accessorised the look with a pair of large pastel hoops, a hot pink Chanel bag and blue embellished heels. And, let's not forget, Blake is famously her own stylist, which makes us love this fab outfit even more. Dress aside, the hair and makeup situation are equally notable in their own right, with the star going for a half-up, half-down do, a dark smoky eye and raspberry pink lipstick.

Lori Harvey:

The strapless dress featured a corset-style bodice covered in sparkling adornments and an intricate geometrical design, plus a see-through skirt that trailed behind her as she walked the carpet. The 25-year-old fashion and beauty influencer grounded her look with a pair of soaring silver metallic pumps by Jimmy Choo boasting a hefty platform sole and ankle-strap fastening.

Taylor Swift:

Taylor Swift showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards in this year's biggest red carpet trend: the naked dress. But not just any regular naked dress—this is a Taylor's Version naked dress. That means strategically placed rhinestones, a high-neck collar, and a short-short-short hemline. For makeup, Swift wore a bright red lip and sultry cat eyes. The halter-neck silhouette was draped in crystal embellishments that created a cutout design around the bodice. Her sandals by Christian Louboutin followed similar ornamental cues as the dress, featuring a metallic silver finish and a T-strap silhouette that incorporated hanging crystal details. Swift accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. For glam, she wore crystal appliques in silver and lavender hues across her browbone, inner-eye accents and red lipstick.

Madelyn Cline:

Madelyn Cline arrived on the red carpet for the Los Angeles, California, premiere of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Sequel” on Nov. 14, wearing a Grecian-style green dress. In honor of her new movie, Cline wore a Grecian-inspired dress by Atelier Versace with braided fabric detailing throughout, a partially ruched fabric bodice that flowed into a long train and a thigh-high slit. Cline accessorized with diamond stud earrings from Reza. She topped off the look with a pair of nude open-toe strappy sandals. For makeup, Cline opted for an elevated evening-ready look, including a nude lip, contoured cheekbones and mascara. She had her hair parted down the center and done in a flowing wavy style.

Brie Larson:

Not all superheroes wear capes, but Captain Marvel does, and it’s custom Oscar de la Renta. Brie Larson, who plays the Air Force fight pilot turned Avenger, attended the opening ceremony of the Marvel Avengers Campus in Disneyland Paris over the weekend in an outfit her character, Carol Danvers, would likely be very proud to wear. For the occasion, Larson donned a look from Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2022 show, a pair of navy blue, high-waisted, wide-leg pants, and a gold crop top tank completely covered in sequins. It was the actress’ cape, though, that really brought the ensemble together and made it worthy of one of Earth’s mightiest heroes. Created by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia specifically for Larson, the piece was hand-embroidered with a celestial sequin design, likely referencing Captain Marvel’s cosmic origin story.

Ana De Armas:

Ana de Armas attended the Netflix premiere of her movie “Blonde” in Los Angeles yesterday. The actress graced the red carpet in a glistening gown and hidden heels. Armas wore a blue and green sequin halter style gown that evoked a scale-like, mermaid feel. The garment was fitted with a low back and a mini train that trailed behind the Cuban native. Armas exuded confidence with her jewelry, which consisted of gold and diamond bracelets and rings, allowing the star to shine even brighter.

Zendaya:

Zendaya brought the diamonds and old Hollywood starlet vibes in a vintage Bob Mackie gown last night at the Time 100 Gala in New York City. The actress stepped out wearing the teal, turquoise, and black patchwork dress. She accessorized with a diamond necklace and earrings. Her hair was styled sleek and straight, and her turquoise eyeshadow perfectly complemented her dress.

Jessica Chastain: DOUBLE FEATURE

Jessica Chastain is celebrating her Oscar win with her husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo by her side! The longtime couple walked the red carpet together at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, Calif. Jessica won the award for Best Actress at the Oscars that evening and she carried her trophy into the after party, proudly showing if off on the carpet.

Chastain arrived to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles for the second annual occasion, wearing a glamorous Oscar de la Renta gown. Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the Oscar-winning star’s white dress featured a curved bodice, thigh-high slit and flowing cape train. Covering the Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim-designed piece was an intricate print of multicolored flowers — one of the duo’s signatures — including sunflowers, peonies and violets.
