Guide to Holiday Makeup:
Tis the Season for accidently breaking champagne glasses - not to mention Christmas ornaments - and also the time for breaking some rules especially when it comes to your makeup. So this holiday season do something glam with your eyes, go wild with your lips, try a little foundation that truly makes your skin glow in the candlelight. In short, bring on the cheer...
Cat Eye 101:
The winged cat eye may be an enduring classic, but it can be hard to master.
First - Scotch tape can help, so before you apply foundation, stick a piece on your hand to get rid of some of the adhesive, then tape it on the outer corner of each eye, angled toward your temples as dramatically as you want. Be sure the wings are even.
Next, use a pencil liner to trace the top edge of the tape in short strokes, starting at the tape's outer end and working your way in. The goal is to create a sketch of the shape - it doesn't have to be perfect. Then trace your upper lashline, connecting the line to the wing you just created.
Finally, go over your work with a liquid gel, or pen liner, again using short strokes for control. Start at the outer corner, then move onto the lashline. Remove the tape, and voila...
Try:
1. L'Oreal Paris - Voluminous Liner Noir - £11.99
2. Laura Mercier - Kajal D'Orient Eye Liner in Vino £24
Go to the Matte:
Shine may be awesome for your eyes, but consider leaving it off your lips this holiday season. Matte lipsticks are better and bolder than ever thanks to moisturizing formulas that don't feel like dried paint. Application is key; dab the colour on with your fingertip for a matte stain, use a brush to apply colour. Matte lipsticks don't have the same glide as regular formulas and because matte lipstick absorbs light, anything less than perfection around the edges of your lips will make you look like a hot mess.
Try:
1. Maybelline New York - Colour Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick in Dynamite Red £9.99
2. Chanel - Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour + Primer in Rouge Vie £28
Glitter for Grown Ups:
Consider a touch of glitz this season, glitter is having a real moment, most people associate it with ballerinas or gymnasts but it can also look like twinkling lights when worn subtly on the eyes and even make them look brighter and bigger.
Try:
1. YSL - La Laque Couture in Silver Clash £22
2. Bobbi Brown - Sequin Eye Shadow in Rose Gold £30
