10 Tips To Transition Your Wardrobe From Summer to Autumn
In a couple of weeks, we’ll officially say goodbye to summer, but the autumnal equinox doesn’t necessarily correspond to an immediate drop in temperatures. So how can we make the seasonal shift comfortably and fashionably?
You’ll still be able to wear sandals for many more weeks; just go with darker colors like tan, black and brown. You can also begin pairing your outfits with heavier fall fabrics. For instance, throw a little tweed or wool jacket over a white shirt, jeans, and metallic sandals. Or, pull in some suede accents.
1. Introduce dark colors: Instead of wearing your flowery summer blouse and blush accessories with a pair white jeans, swap them out for charcoal or oxblood colored sweater, a fawn colored bag, and metallic flats, and you are ready for fall. Yes, you can wear white in Autumn
2. Mix seasonal colors associated with fall into your wardrobe. Think of the changing colors of leaves and the colors of fall fruits and vegetables. A Mustard or Rust cardigan over a floral print dress would be a good start.
3. Layer a chambray or dark summer shirtdress over leggings to help you move into fall. Add fall colored accessories like these animal print shoes.
4. Opaque tights or leggings are also a nod to fall.
5. Top a pretty summer dress with a long cozy, boyfriend cardigan.
6. Transition with a pair of suede booties, and wear them with bare legs to show off your tanned legs a little longer.
7. Add a ¾ or long-sleeved shirt under your sleeveless summer dress.
8. Throw on a poncho, wrap or leather jacket over top of a dress or jeans and a top -super easy and instantly fall.
9. Swap your pink, coral and French manicures for neutral beige or shimmery metallic.
10. Add a faux fur vest to a year round, neutral-colored jeans. Tie the look together with open-toe booties that still hint at it’s not quite full on fall yet.
Clothing is only part of the story – make-up also moves with the seasons. Make-up guru Bobbi Brown suggests simple adjustments like opting for warmer, tawnier colors and switching your sheer summer lip gloss with a creamy lipstick formula.
Exfoliate your skin once a week to get rid of any summer flakiness, and switch to a slightly heavier moisturizer to protect your skin for the coming cooler and drier weather. Also, try dusting of bronzer on forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin to maintain some of that summer glow.
