4 Backstage Beauty Tips

Behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week Spring 2015, we spotted some unexpected ways to use these hair, makeup and nail products....

1. Use Lipstick as Bronzer....

As Seen at Mara Hoffman

Makeup artist Alice Lane chose a coppery shade to create a sun kissed glow. The narrow tube helps you apply colour precisely to your cheekbones, your forehead and the bridge of your nose. Just dab and blend.

Try:

Maybelline New York - The Buffs by Colour Sensational in Maple Kiss £7.99

....Or as Eyeshadow

As Seen at Derek Lam

For a smoky eye that's colourful and creamy, makeup artist Tom Pecheux brushed bold purple lipstick all over your lids. For a softer look, go over the lipstick with taupe shadow.

Try:

MAC Lipstick in Violetta £14

2. Use Conditioner as a Styling Product

As Seen at The Row

To tame frizz and give locks a healthy sheen, hairstylist Oldie Gilbert mixed a bit of conditioner with water and brushed it through dry stands.

Try:

Kerastase - Nutritive Lait Vital Conditioner - £32

3. Use Eyeshadow as Highlighter

As Seen at Alice + Olivia By Stacey Bendet

Stila global director of artistry Sarah Lucero swept a shimmery white shadow across cheekbones with a blush brush. It can be easier to control the intensity of sheen with shadow - go sheer with one quick swipe, or layer it on for a mega glow.

Try:

Stila Cosmetics - Eyes are the Window Palette in Body - £45

4. Use Ridge Filler as Polish

As seen Alexander Wang

Essie celeb manicurist Michelle Saunders layered a coat of ridge filler over neutral polish. It acts like an Instagram filter, adding extra brightness to your manicure.

Try:

Essie - Ridge Filling Base Coat - £5.99
