How to Get Mistletoe-Worthy Makeup in Less Than a Minute

Holiday festivities mean twinkly lights, gilded decorations, and lots and lots of bubbly; when it comes to your party makeup, now is clearly not the time to aim for anything understated. Here, makeup artist Michael Anthony shows you how to pull out all the beauty stops in less than 60 seconds - employing everything from strategic splashes of glitter to swoops of metallic liner to swipes of head-turning lip hues (care of Maybelline New York Lip Studio Color Blur). After all, nobody should saunter below the mistletoe unprepared.

 

Classic Red Lips and Crystallized Eyes

 

 

To help sparkles stick without irritating sensitive skin, reach for Lucas Papaw Ointment. "It gives you a bit more play time if you accidentally overdo it with the glitter," says makeup artist Michael Anthony, who used a combo of Make Up For Ever and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics glitter on the inner corners of eyes. "You can wipe it away with a Q-tip, whereas there's more of a commitment with a lash adhesive." Though the ointment isn't quite as durable as glue, it offers enough grip to get you through a cocktail party and the after-hours festivities, Anthony adds. A soft taupe shadow along the lower lash line, demi falsies, and a quick swipe of Maybelline New York Volum' Express The Colossal Chaotic Lash mascara polishes off the lid look. Balance over-the-top shimmer with a matte red mouth. Anthony used Maybelline New York Lip Studio Color Blur in Partner in Crimson, a blue-based red that makes teeth look whiter. "Since red can travel, concentrate the color on the center of your lips, then blur it out toward the perimeter with the smudger," Anthony says. Done!

 

Two-Tone Lips and High-Shine Cheeks

 

Want to double your beauty fun? Pair contrasting lip colors with luminous skin. Matte brown shadow and black mascara create depth without drawing too much attention to eyes, Anthony says. A softly contoured complexion completes the backdrop for a statement mouth. To get the look, apply bronzer to the hollows of your face and dust a highlighter along the tops of cheekbones. Anthony applied Maybelline New York Lip Studio Color Blur in Orange Ya Glad to the center of the mouth first. "A lighter color in the center makes lips look fuller," he says. Rim the perimeter with Color Blur in Plum, Please, but stay true to your natural lip line. "This is not time to take creative liberties and overdraw," he warns. Finish by using the smudger side to blur the two shades together.

 

Hot Pink Lips and Molten Metallic Liner

 

A matte brown eyeshadow creates the perfect base for a platinum cat-eye. To nail the silver streak, dampen a thin, tapered brush with water or even your favorite eye serum. "It's safe for your eyes, but also changes the consistency of shadow and transforms it into a liquid liner," Anthony says of his serum secret. Starting at the inner corner, drag the brush across your top lashes, flicking it out at the end to create a wing. Finish with mascara.
