42nd Post - October Overview

Finally, here are my recommendations for October, hope you enjoy them and find them interesting to watch, listen and eat. In the meantime, October has a lot to offer especially in London, so head this month and take in all the best new events, exhibitions and best events in the capital. The return of crisp days and cold evenings mean we're on the verge of winter, but that's no excuse to hibernate. October is all about long leafy walks, pubs with fires and fancy dress (for Halloween, of course).

Transitions in life are usually marked by major events. Birthdays, graduations, weddings. But the greater transitions often come out of smaller moments. When we stop and look at where we are. Because each time we see how far we’ve come, we also see how far we still have to go. In order to fully transform, we might need to free ourselves of everything we’ve been holding on to. To send us on our new path. The right one. But if, at the end, you find the person you’ve become is not the person you want to be, you can always turn around and try again. And maybe the next time, you won’t be so alone when it’s over. Too late to turn back now.

London Film Festival:

This October sees the 61st BFI London Film Festival, undoubtedly the capital's – the UK's – biggest celebration of international cinema from the past year. On the programme is an astute mix of the best movies from Cannes and the other major festivals, and prestige awards contenders from the major US studios. Opening the festival is Andy Serkis’s feature directorial debut 'Breathe' starring Clare Foy and Andrew Garfield. Also showing is a startling restoration of the silent Indian/British/German co-production, Shiraz (1928) as part of the UK India Year of Culture.

Illuminating India:

India is heading to South Kensington for the Science Museum’s latest season, celebrating the global influence of India’s science, culture and thought. Joining ‘Illuminating India’ is Danny Boyle in a Q&A following a special screening of 'Slum Dog Millionaire', the 'Bluebird Tea Company' hosting tea blending workshops, renowned speaker Sadhguru – named one of India’s 50 most influential people, talks from Indian science, tech and innovation experts and famed Mangalyaan Mars Orbiter Mission, Moumita Dutta. Much of the season is free, however some events are ticketed.
