Effortlessly Elegant: An Ode to the 1940s

The Miu Miu fashion show is one of the highlights of Paris Fashion Week and this season it was as much about what was going on off the runway as on it, with a host of A-Listers descending on the event all dressed in the brand. Amongst them was Maggie Gyllenhaal who sported a 1940s-style pussy bow red and black dress, accessorised with a white clutch and black velvet platform heels.
I am loving these statement shoes which are the perfect way to elevate any look, the velvet is great for autumn; meanwhile the buckle details give them a glam edge. The top, embellished with delicate sequins and beads, was styled like a classic blouse complete with pussy bow neck tie, but dipped into a low V at the neck to saucily tease at her bust underneath. Cinching in at her slim waist, the frock then extended into a sleek black skirt, which tightly hugged the mother-of-two's impressively toned frame all the way down.

All eyes on her: The 32-year-old showed off her impressively slender figure in a slinky red and black midi dress and chunky platform heels, as she posed outside the catwalk event

Fresh off the reveal of her first-ever Vogue shoot, Kate Middleton accomplished something else: proving to the world she could convincingly star in a wartime period piece. At an opening for Hampton Court's new playground, Magic Garden, Kate wore an A-line Michael Kors coat from the spring 2014 collection (naturally, it's sold out), with nude heels and tiny liberty rolls, for a look that wouldn't be out of place in a film probably called something like Heroes Among Us or Norfolk Down.
