THIS YEAR'S BEST DRESSES - 2024

This has seen some great style and fashion on the red carpet and here we have the stars that raised the bar for red carpet glamour.... Here we have the best red carpet moments this year...

Hailee Steinfeld:

The Elie Saab Haute Couture dress featured a sash around the neck combined with a diaphanous  sheer skirt which fluttered in the wind. The star wore her raven locks in a sleek updo and she sported a smoky palette of make-up. The 96th Academy Awards honours the best films of 2023 - with the glittering ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The strapless dress featured glittering, gilded floral details at the bodice, which made way to a goddess-like pleated skirt with several layers of sheer fabric. The gilded leaf motif was repeated at the cuffs, which attached to more swaths of sheer blue chiffon, giving Steinfeld a pair of wings whenever she raised her arms. To complete the gown, the actor wore a long scarf around her neck, letting the tails trail behind her back like a train. There's no need to compete with this much dress in the glam department, so Hailee kept her hair and makeup on the minimal side. She wore her hair in a slicked back bun with a side part, and added a pair of diamond statement earrings as her only jewellery. Rounding out the look, she rocked an understated cat-eye and berry lip.

Taylor Swift:

Taylor Swift has officially hit the Golden Globes red carpet – and of course she chose a shimmering gown for the occasion.

While the singer is already a four-time Best Original Song nominee, she’s attending in 2024 as a Cinematic and Box Office Achievement contender, thanks to her blockbuster movie The Eras Tour. Swift opted for a dress befitting a nominee, celebrating her special night in a custom green Gucci dress by Sabato de Sarno. Although we’re celebrating her accomplishments in film tonight, we can’t help but wonder if, fresh off her 1989 era, she’s dropping an Easter egg for Reputation (Taylor’s Version).

Swift’s empire-waisted column dress featured criss-crossing around the bust and an open back held together with three straps. With a slit up the leg, she showed off her matching pointy-toed pumps. She finished off her look with a smattering of diamonds: a handful of rings, a dainty bracelet and dangly earrings in her first two piercings.

Swift has previously attended the Golden Globes: her last appearance was in 2020 on the occasion of her nomination for Best Original Song for “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing. The slinky green Gucci number is quite the departure from her last Globes dress: a romantic, navy blue Etro gown patterned with bright yellow flowers, complete with a cut-out at the sternum.

As for her make-up this year, Swift kept it simple and classic. With her hair free-flowing, a light smoky eye, and a pinkish lip, she let all the attention linger on her dress.

Blake Lively:

Pulling from the archives, Lively channeled her inner princess in a glittering ivory gown from Atelier Versace’s Spring/Summer 2018 couture collection. An intricately beaded bust mimicked the look of a tiara with gold and sapphire accents, while beaded corset boning framed multiple cutouts at the waist. A flowing skirt, decorated with a gold and navy baroque pattern, completed the ensemble.

Lively added her own maximalist touch to the look with other gold and navy details, including several chunky bangles stacked on her right arm. To contrast the mound of gemstone-encrusted bracelets, she then added a slew of gold and navy rings on her left hand, taking care to wear a ring on each finger. Up top, her teardrop earrings also matched the royal palette.

Dakota Johnson:

The Madame Web actress, 34, looked a vision in a floor-length figure-flattering gown with a plunging V-neck bodice made from sparkling silver chainmail. The dazzling dress also featured a white satin skirt with a split up the back revealing her incredible silver platformed heels. The Fifty Shades of Grey star elevated her look with an array of eye-catching jewels. Dakota wore the 'Art Deco Pendant' earrings from Maison Boucheron, as well as the 'Plume de Paon' ring. Both featured a mix of diamonds and pearls.

Selena Gomez:

She wore the custom Ralph Lauren piece with coordinating diamond drop earrings and several diamond bracelets and rings. The dress resembled the black gown she wore to the 2023 Academy Museum Gala—a stunning piece with a silver rosette halter neckline. Gomez wore her dark brown hair down, straight, and had on a sharp cat-eye and a glossy pink lip.

Kerry Washington:

Washington stunned in a green gown with a plunging neckline and dramatic train that followed several feet behind her. The actress had her long raven locks stylishly pulled up into a loose bun that showed off her sparkly earrings.

Jennifer Lopez:

Jennifer, as expected, commanded the red carpet in a jaw-dropping sheer silver gown adorned with intricate beading and sequins. The figure-hugging masterpiece featured a halter neckline with cascading embellishments that sparkled under the lights. Paired with a flowing black velvet cape, Jennifer exuded old Hollywood glamour. She completed the look with sleek, centre-parted waves and a bold smoky eye. If anyone knows how to own a red carpet, it’s J.Lo.

Lupita Nyong'o

The beautiful silk-embroidered centrepiece featured a plunging V neckline, crystal bead embellishments throughout, and pale blue feathers at the peplum waist and hem, all in a lovely powder blue. She paired the frock with layers of diamonds, in the form of a stack of dainty bracelets, a ring decorated with two diamond studs, and diamond drop earrings, all from De Beers. As for glam, Nyong’o looked radiant in glowy makeup complete with a berry lip and shimmery eye shadow.

Kelsea Ballerini:

The 30-year-old country musician wore a gold halter turtleneck gown styled by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Heann and kept it simple with accessories. Ballerini wore her hair pulled back in a lower bun with a single, loose strand styled in front. For her makeup, the face of CoverGirl and the Pantene healthy hair ambassador was glowing thanks to Kelsey Deenihan, who gave her a shimmery eye and a nude, glossy lip.

Anya Taylor-Joy:

The Queen’s Gambit star arrived at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre in a strapless sequined ball gown courtesy of Dior Haute Couture. The incredible silver-gray piece featured a voluminous skirt covered in layers of bedazzled petal-shaped flaps—a nod to the iconic Junon dress Christian Dior designed for his Fall/Winter 1949–1950 collection. (Natalie Portman wore a similar look to Cannes last year.)
