Fashion - Classic & Chic

Classic style calls to mind an arsenal of wardrobe staples - the crisp white button-down, a wide-leg trouser, camel coats, perfect jeans, and ballet flats - and an easy way of looking put-together that has withstood the test of time. Certain women stick out in our mind as perfect examples of classic style; their subtle elegance is something we're looking to channel this January. You can never go wrong taking style cues from past greats like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy, a young Candice Bergen, or modern-day stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. Trends come and go, but these women show us how to capture timeless beauty with the simplest pieces.

Here we have Glee star Lea Michele displaying her classic looks as this are timeless, chic outfits. This look shows Lea sticking to a traditional preppy palette in red, white and navy, but her chain handle bags brings an instant dose of elegance to her nautical inspired ensemble. Also, try the classic black and white as you can accessorise well with simple jewellery.

She's shooting scenes for the final series of Glee, and as Lea Michele proved, her alter ego's style has come a long way. Nowadays Rachel Berry is a bit less about cutesy cardigans and hairbands, more sophisticated yet preppy tailoring. She looked super chic, sporting a blue skater skirt, some oversized sunnies, and  this contrast collar shirt. A classic shirt like this one should be a staple piece of every style savvy woman's wardrobe. It's perfect with a pencil skirt for the office, then switch to skinny jeans and ballet pumps for the weekend. Lea's is by J Brand, a label loved by everyone from Lily Allen to the Duchess of Cambridge.
