Album of the Month - Nobody But Me by Michael Buble
Michael Buble is one of the biggest stars in the world. Here in the UK all of his albums have been certified at least 2x Platinum with 2009 release Crazy Love selling over 2.7 million copies in this country alone. Buble’s 2011 festive release Christmas sells consistently year after year and will likely become his biggest album to date. As fans have come to expect, Nobody But Me is a collection of covers with a few original tracks thrown into the mix. The album’s title track is the lead single and in the opening moments it feels very familiar. The track has the kind of sound that Buble excels in but a curveball is thrown when Black Thought from The Roots serves up a rap in the middle. It shouldn’t work but it does and it may serve to get Buble played in areas that don’t normally support his music.
Nobody But Me opens with the acoustic-driven I Believe In You, which is a song of hope, optimism and love. It’s a beautiful start to the record and one of Buble’s best original tracks to date. The song easily lends itself to radio and it’s sure to be selected by many couples for their wedding first dance. It also shows off a softer tone to Buble’s voice not relying on his trademark belts.
Elsewhere on the record Buble records his wife’s favourite song On An Evening in Roma (Sotter Celo De Roma), gets dreamy on the sumptuous The Very Thought Of You, and takes on the great Leslie Bricusse classic My Kind of Girl.
By this point if you’ve never been a fan of Michael Buble, it’s likely that you never will be. Nobody But Me caters to the star’s massive fan base and it’s guaranteed to be one of the biggest-selling albums of the year. Buble knows how to wow his fans and he serves up 10 tracks that are a continuation of his past releases. The album is perhaps a little more up-tempo than To Be Loved and as always it oozes Buble’s unparalleled charisma showcasing his powerful and distinctive vocals.
